Our approach to investing
The foundation of our investment approach is to preserve and grow wealth over the longer term.
We do not attempt to be all things to all people, and seek only to make investments that we understand and that offer quality and value.
We aim to buy good investments at prices we believe to be at a significant discount to their intrinsic value, and to hold them for the long term. In practice this often means that we are actively buying investments that others are selling, and selling investments that others are buying.
We invest in businesses we have selected, not "markets", and we believe that certain industries and sectors should simply be avoided.
Our investment decisions are made without regard to index composition, country weighting or market momentum. This means that our investment portfolios will look different to any index or to other investment managers’ portfolios.
Our strategy of investing to obtain real long term returns across economic and market cycles means that our portfolios will have a lower turnover, resulting in lower transaction and taxation costs, and providing clients with increased compounding returns.
We benefit from the insights our directors have obtained through advising many private companies in many industries through their accounting practice.
At Hamilton we also believe that the people managing your money should be investing their own money right alongside you. Therefore, our directors and their families invest in our funds alongside our clients. We will always own what our clients own.
